Karin Brown is a photographer with a background in oil painting. Her work is characterised by her attraction to the painterly quality of light and its ability to pull apart reality when it is distorted by motion or provide a sense of hyper-reality through stillness.

Many of her images verge on impressionistic abstraction, looking beyond surface reality to the silent thrilling life of trees - the main focus of her work. Her photography seeks to capture the uncanny quality of living light and shadow, emphasising the different temporal and spiritual space in which trees exist. Capturing extraordinary vibrant strokes of light or texture created by the effect of light on colour and shape, Karin’s work seeks to encourage us to reassess how we can see the natural world around us.
